Washington Flute Circle was formed to provide a resource for individuals and organizations that are interested in the Native American flute and wish to form flute circles, put on seminars or workshops, access individuals that create and/or sell flutes, find teachers or mentors of the flute and create a repository of information surrounding the flute and its music and history for future generations. In short it is an organization that wishes to celebrate the flute from the heart providing a path for healing in this world. The Washington Flute Circle (WFC) is the founding organization for the annual event Flute Quest.

Washington Flute Circle's charter is to provide education and mentoring in the creation of and support for Flute Circles in the Northwest as well as a vehicle providing goodwill services to surrounding communities through the celebration of the Native American Flute.

Washington Flute Circle, a Native American flute organization, is the parent of Flute Quest which was formed around 2004 and became a Washington based Non profit Corporation in June of 2005. The principles for Washington Flute Circle were Brent Haines-President, Kent Bush-Secretary and Rodney Bolyen-Treasurer.

In June of 2005, Washington Flute Circle was granted their 501 (c) (3) status as an educational non profit corporation. With this charter and through Flute Quest we are creating avenues for and of the celebration of the Native American Flute from the heart through our breath. Flute Quest is one of WFC's vehicles to bring groups and individuals together in the creation of music of and from the heart for all to enjoy.

Flute Quest is sponsored by Washington Flute Circle, a 501 (c) (3) Non Profit Organization. 20-4946054

Flute Quest: Annual Native American flute festival, in Washington State

Flute Quest brings together internationally acclaimed flutists, accomplished local musicians, those who want to learn to play, and persons who simply enjoy listening to the Native American flute.  Makers offer instruments suitable for all levels of performance from beginner to pro, or fair goers can bid on instruments in the Silent Auction. Experienced musicians will lead workshops at all levels. Experienced musicians will also lead flute, drum, and didgeridoo circles under the festival teepee. Such circles are excellent places to try out newly developed playing skills. Budding performers can take advantage of the open microphone on the New Breath day stage. Many of these activities will be free.

The first vision of a Native American flute festival in honor of the celebration of the Native American Flute began as a vision in the summer of 2005 when Brent Haines, Kent Bush and Rodney Bolyen decided it was time for a festival where performers from around the nation could come together in celebration of the Native American Flute. In the fall of 2005 they put together the possibility that would become Flute Quest.

In 2006 the first Flute Quest came together when performers had the opportunity to teach and mentor over 100 children, ages 11-12, about the history, legends and music of the Native American Flute. The members of the Washington flute circles donated their time and energy to create 150 (PVC) flutes for the children and their guardians.

Additional 2006 highlights were the sixteen performers that played throughout the weekend and the flute making and playing workshops. In 2007 we added to the original event with additional flute building workshops a drum workshop plus many classes offered by the performers themselves.

We hope that everyone has a chance to celebrate the flute with us, maybe build one and learn to play it, mentor a flute circle or just be in the moment of the music that will emanate from one of the many stages, concerts or workshops that will be going on throughout this event.

In July 2008 again the members of the Washington flute circles donated their time and energy to create 150 (PVC) flutes to be used for the children's program during Flute Quest 2008. Flute Quest 2008 is bringing together many vendors, workshop leaders, flute makers, and free daily performances on our New Breath Stage, just to name a few of the highlights. As always we invite you to write to us about your interest, needs and or desires with regards to the flute and its possibility for you and those around you. Till we meet may you always celebrate Spirit though the heart in breath.

In 2009 we intend to bring a similar program to teach children and adults the history, culture, and music of the Native American flute.

Thanks for celebrating the flute with us.

Sincerely,
